The Official FnJ PODCAST: Episodes 46 – 48!
The Staff Discuss Movies, Games, & Everything Geeky!

Hey folks, Bobert here with the latest episodes of the FnJ Podcast! These are going up too fast for me to keep up, so I’ll simply be posting these “announcement” articles every two or three that go up. If you haven’t noticed, episodes 46, 47, and 48 are now up! Episode 46, titled “Make Great Pleasure”, features the cast discussing the virtues of Hentai (animated porn from Japan) and making tasteless jokes about Haiti. Episode 47 is dubbed the “Kat-Cast” and introduces listeners to another female guest star, who incidentally ends up kicking one of our esteemed hosts in the balls (literally) before show’s end. And in the most recent podcast, episode 48 — also known as “Rebound Dog”, we dip into the FnJ Mailbag and read some listener comments! All that and more on the latest episodes of the FnJ Podcast! Subscribe to the FnJ Podcast on the iTunes Store and leave us your thoughts and comments, we love the attention! And if for some reason iTunes ain’t working for ya, you can find us right here too!

This Week@The Movies: ROME, DARKNESS & More!
McJeffrey Looks At This Weekend’s Cinematic Offerings!

Hey everybody! What’s going on in your world? Wait! Don’t tell me. I don’t really care. I kid, I kid. This weekend we have two (count them) two major releases… and very little else. Usually at this point I inform you about all the smaller films that are opening in and around the Sacramento area. Well, there isn’t anything new. Sorry about that. Call it the spring malaise if you will. You’re just going to have to settle with what is already out there. But as for those two new releases, go beyond the break and learn more… (more…)

Denzel’s ELI Thinks Reading Is Fun!
Kryos Reads From THE Good BOOK And Says — AMEN!

Will the new Denzel Washington Post-Apocalyptic movie from the Hughes brothers make you say “OMG!”, or “God dammit — this sucks!”?  Go beyond the break to find out… (more…)

New Release Tuesday: January 26th, 2010!
A Look At The Week’s Blu-rays: WHIP IT, THIS IS IT, & More!

Hey folks, Bobert here! Another week of new releases and another edition of New Release Tuesday is coming right-atcha! This is what I would call a slim pickins kind of week, with only a couple of must-haves for me, but a pretty big selection of curiosities.  As usual, the assortment of Blu-ray output includes new stuff (not all necessarily worth seeing), Hi-Def updates (resistance is futile) , and a few classics ( I’m using that term loosely) getting the shiny blue disc treatment. Go beyond the break to see all that and more… (more…)

The Box Office Space ● January 22nd – 24th, 2010!
A Look At The Weekend’s Winners And Losers!

Well…. at least I was right about Avatar. Another weekend has passed and another astute prediction by me tattered and bruised. Of course, Avatar remained in the top spot for the sixth straight week taking in a hefty 36 million bucks. This movie has only dropped fifteen percent so I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that we have a new all time highest grossing champion. Yipee? Sure, why not? This whole Titanic déjà vu thing is just too weird for words at this point. I’m halfway expecting Lost in Space to get re-released so something can topple this monolith. I wonder how long Cameron is going to take to make his next film. And as I contemplate that, go beyond the break to see the rest of the standings… (more…)

Last Week@The Movies: LEGION, Ford, The Rock & More!
McJeffrey Looks At Last Weekend’s Cinematic Offerings!

Hi everybody! Do you smell that? Why that’s the smell of new theatrical releases! Why does it smell like that? Don’t question the fragrance!! After all, don’t you like cheese? And a large helping of cheese is what you get this week. Of course, for those in Sacto who like their palates a bit more challenged there’s Jeff Bridges in an award gathering role as a country singer in the flick CRAZY HEART, which opens at the Tower and over at the Olympus Pointe for you folks in Roseville. Also, Robin Wright Penn (or is it just Wright?) plays a woman with secrets in THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE which can be seen at The Crest. Now if it was the private lives of Pippi Longstocking, then I’d totally be there. Everything else can be examined beyond the break… (more…)

At Last — Han Solo & Encino Man Join Forces!
McJeffrey MEASURES How (Not-So) EXTRAORDINARY Ford’s Latest Is!

There is no doubt a stigma that goes with any “deathbed movie”. From Love Story to Terms of Endearment and beyond, audiences sometimes like to have a good cry. These days, most of these types of tearjerkers are relegated to the Lifetime Channel to satisfy the stay at home moms that gravitate towards this kind of pap. Extraordinary Measures works despite itself by focusing its energies away from the dying (in this case, two children) and towards the red tape one must go through to find a cure for anything in this day and age. It almost redeems the sub-genre. Almost… (more…)

Not Just Another Teen Movie About YOUTH IN Love!
McJeffrey Finds Nothing REVOLTing About Cera’s Latest Comedy!

For about the last year or so, actor Michael Cera has been put to task for playing essentially the same character in every role he’s been given. From his start on the short lived Arrested Development to his work in films like Superbad and Juno, Cera has entertained us with his feeble and awkward nerd of a caricature. For a while the general public was entertained, but like any one trick pony, the novelty inevitably wore off. Youth in Revolt exhibits the same nervous energy Cera injects into all his work, but also allows him to branch out and play against type. The results are largely successful… (more…)

FlixnJoystix Asks — Wassup HOLMES?!
Kryos Explains Why SHERLOCK Is More Than Elementary!

Don’t be fooled by the title, there are no Mexicans in this movie. In fact Sherlock Holmes at his best always involves clever misdirection followed by fun moments of enlightenment. Thankfully this movie delivers both. Go beyond the break to find out how… (more…)

New Release Tuesday: January 19th, 2010!
A Look At The Week’s Blu-rays: LYING, GAMER, CHE, & More!

Well whaddyaknow, another Tuesday has arrived and another edition of New Release Tuesday has been posted! Let’s see if I can keep this up! Hey folks, Bobert here bringing you this week’s picks and worthy mentions. Aside from a few classics and not-so-classics getting the inevitable Hi-Def upgrade, we also have two under-appreciated “flops” getting a second chance on Home Video, another Hi-Def Criterion Collection release, and at least one Direct-to-DVD (Blu-ray rather) sequel for those with little to no discriminating taste. Go beyond the break to see all that and more… (more…)
