First off, sorry about a lack of a “This Week @ the Movies” this week. I found myself… how you say… a bit sidetracked the last few days. Things are no back to normal so let’s see what happened this weekend. Well holy crap! Twilight Saga: New Moon had the third highest opening weekend ever, just under The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3 with a tally of over 140 million duckets. Nobody doubted that this movie would open big, but that’s ridiculous. Would it be presumptuous to assume Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen may have a little competition for biggest movie of the year? Incidentally, were you aware other movies came out? It’s true and I have the tabulations for you right beyond the break…. (more…)

The heart of any good party is the DJ. Will DJ Hero spawn parties only worth 50 cents, or events that 50 Cent would deem worthy to attend? Go beyond the break to find out… (more…)
It’s hard to sum up a movie in a sentence or two. The truth is, its a pretty lazy thing to do. So I guess implementing Bobert’s BigScreen Blurbs says two very apt things about me: I love a challenge, and I’m pretty friggin’ lazy. I now present to you what spawned from the marriage of those two very contradictory personal attributes. But remember that these are simply my opinions, and should never be taken as the final word. Go out and see these flicks for yourself, make up your own mind. Never let someone else’s opinion stand in for your own. Believe me, you may end up discovering your tastes stray very far from the consensus. This time I’ve got a whole range of flicks for you to consider. There’s the newest film from the Brothers Coen, Chris Rock’s attempt to get into the Documentary game, and the latest flick from the writer of HIGH FIDELITY. Go beyond the break to find out… (more…)
Further proving that this country is filled with lots of people who like to watch things go BOOM, SPLAT and KABLOOEY, 2012 did gangbusters this weekend bringing in a haul of 65 million bucks. This is indeed impressive, but not surprising seeing as this movie caters to the lowest common denominator and they just happen to enjoy going to the movies. For a complete review of the weekend, go beyond the break… (more…)

Howdy ho little buckaroos! It’s the amazing McJeffrey here to give you all the interesting news about what is coming out this weekend. All I can really say at this point is if you don’t enjoy stuff blowing up real good this is the weekend to skip. But before we get into that, if you live in Sacratomato and you have a boner for European football (and who doesn’t) you should take a journey out to the Tower Theatre to see THE DAMNED UNITED, a film about the 44-day reign of Brian Clough as coach of Leeds United. Michael Sheen plays Clough and the reviews have been nearly across the board enthusiastic. I’ll probably find my way to the theater to check it out sometime this weekend. As for the other releases, please go beyond the break to see what is in store for you…. (more…)
Another weekend has come and gone, with a new king of the hill to dethrone the “king of pop”. He goes by the name Charles Dickens and his classic Yuletide story, A Christmas Carol, has claimed its spot at the top. Go beyond the break to learn more… (more…)
Howdy friends and associates and Merry Christmas! It’s not Christmas you say? Well tell that to the folks over at Disney who have decided to get the festivities rolling early with their 3D Christmas Carol movie. It’s among four big releases this week no doubt making up for the solo debut of the King of Pop’s flick last weekend. Aside for these four flicks, the Crest will be premiering THE BURNING PLAIN, a film that follows a two-tiered storyline involving a mother (Kim Basinger), daughter (Charlize Theron) and various others as they each take an emotion odyssey to rid themselves of a dark past… or something like that. As for everything else, go beyond the break to find out more… (more…)
Well Michael Jackson proves he still has the moves even after death. His concert film This is It easily took the top spot this Halloween weekend, scaring up 21.3 million bucks. Paranormal Activity remained strong to become the new Halloween weekend Horror champ, only dropping around 20 percent to take the second spot with 16.5 million. What else happened you may ask? Well go beyond the break to find out… (more…)
