This Week@The Movies: THIS IS IT & More!
A Quick Look At This Weekend’s Cinematic Offerings!

This is it, but is that all there is?Happy Halloween all you ghouls and ghosts! It’s your favorite crypt keeper McJeffrey readying up a goblins stew of new releases to sink your teeth into. This week we have one single wide release and it stars a dead guy! Oooooh spooky!! Adding to the chill factor, those fat Weinsteins have opted to re-release HALLOWEEN II this weekend after it disappointed greatly at the end of August. So there’s an actually Halloween movie released on Halloween weekend? How novel! Over at the Tower, AN EDUCATION makes its art house stop in Sactown. It’s a coming-of-age story about a young lady in 60’s London who gets swept off her feet by a man twice her age. My interest for this movie has steadily grown in recent months so my patronage is pretty much assured. Over at The Crest, NO IMPACT MAN will find its way to a movie screen. It’s a documentary about a guy who decides to go a year without making any waste may it be food, electricity, etc. The movie seemed slightly irritating to me but the word-of-mouth has been strong. Knowing me, I’ll probably see it. But let’s not keep Michael waiting shall we? Beyond the break we go… (more…)

The Box Office Space ● October 23rd – 25th, 2009!
A Look At The Weekend’s Winners And Losers!

The Box Office SpaceHey everybody! Well guess how wrong I was? In a way though, I’m glad to be wrong (for once). Many folks figured that the match up between the newest Saw and Paranormal Activity was going to be a close battle. Hardly. Those seven hundred extra screens did the trick and put Paranormal Activity in the top spot, something that the oft compared film Blair Witch Project never achieved. For more information on this weeks box office, please go beyond the break… (more…)

This Week@The Movies: SAW VI, AMELIA, & More!
A Quick Look At This Weekend’s Cinematic Offerings!

Time For Another Check-UpGreetings fans of all things super awesome and sugary sweet! This is McJeffrey taking over the helm of this week at the movies as Bobert deals with a nasty addiction to painkillers. He’s been trying to soothe those savage aches with horror movies but the results have been limited at best. Anywho, this week we’ve got female aviators, robot boys, circus vampires and Jigsaw!! For you local peeps in SacTown, over at the Tower you’ve got Amelie’s Audrey Tautou playing beloved fashion designer Gabrielle Chanel in the biopic COCO BEFORE CHANEL, while at the Crest, you can get all hot and bothered learning about America’s dependence on foreign oil in FUEL, a documentary that will no doubt make you extremely depressed and/or disgusted. Not to be outdone, both Century Stadium 14 and Regal Natomas Marketplace 16 are showing the well received Chris Rock hair documentary GOOD HAIR. Seeing as that one was amongst my twenty anticipated films of the fall, you know I’ll be all over that one. What about everything else? Well go beyond the break and find out for yourself… (more…)

Bobert Knows WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!
But He Sure As Hell Won’t Let Any Kids Near ‘Em!

Bobert's WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE Movie Review
Hiring an independent filmmaker as artistically driven as Spike Jonze is a double-edged sword for a major studio, especially when they’re hoping for a major blockbuster adaptation of a children’s book classic. After a tumultuous 5-year production, which included rumors of a studio-take-over and disastrous test-screenings, Jonze has delivered a beautiful film that carries his uniquely artistic vision. But did Jonze, a filmmaker known for films dealing with strangely quirky and humorously dark adult content, give Warner Bros. the family-friendly picture they obviously wanted? And does it stand a chance in its current form to make back the nearly $100 million spent on bringing Maurice Sendak’s WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE to big screen life? Go beyond the break to find out… (more…)

FlixnJoystix Presents: Days 6 And 7 Of HHMM ’09!
Wrapping Up The Weekend With THE WICKER MAN & BRIDE OF CHUCKY!

Halloween Horror Movie Marathon '09 -- THE WICKER MAN and BRIDE OF CHUCKY
Yeah so it looks like I’m playing catch up with myself at this point, as I’ve fallen behind on writing these up everyday. Over the next few weekends, which I’ll document as quick wrap-ups from here on, I’m trying to see Horror films that have been recommended to me on one of more occasions, as well checking out sequels to some Horror classics. My first weekend of doing this started off a little rough, for various reasons. Go beyond the break to find out why as 30 Days of Horror continues… (more…)

FlixnJoystix Presents: DAY 5 of HHMM ’09!
Bobert Is Taking A Trip To ZOMBIELAND!

Halloween Horror Movie Marathon -- ZOMBIELAND
Horror can truly be one of the most versatile and malleable film genres in cinema, when placed in the right hands at least. Certain filmmakers have been able to pull off such genre bending variations as Action-Horror (DOG SOLDIERS), Horror-Romance (MAY), and Psychological Horror (BUG). But easily the most frequently attempted, but rarely successful, variants have been of the Horror-Comedy variety. Sure there are a number of great examples from the past (YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN) and present (SLITHER), but there seems to be only a handful to pick out in the past four decades. The latest to take a stab at it, this one headed by a relatively unknown director, shows a lot of promise despite treading the same particular ground as many before it: the Zombie Comedy. Go beyond the break to find out whether or not ZOMBIELAND is a worthy addition to the pantheon of Horror Comedies, as Bobert’s 30 Days of Horror continues on its bloody rampage unabated… (more…)
