THE FOG OF WAR Review!

Although this disc is over two years old, I only now got around to ripping the shrink wrap off and popping it into my DVD player earlier tonight. I was inspired to do so after I caught a glimpse of the much-talked about documentary on one of the many “Learning” channels. I figured, why watch it on TV when I have the DVD? It’s quite a shame I’ve waited this long, because THE FOG OF WAR is truly an eye-opening piece of filmmaking. Released before Michael Moore’s overrated FAHRENHEIT 9/11 and just after America’s Invasion of Iraq in 2003 , the film was touted by many as a film that every politician (specifically George W. Documentarian Errol Morris (who previously brought us the real-life stories of cosmologist Stephen Hawking and Holocaust denier Fred A. Leuchter) interviews former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, the man many blame for America’s role in the Vietnam War. At the ripe old age of 85, McNamara is candid about his career and life before and during his White House term. Accused of being arrogant and machine-like during the Vietnamese conflict, McNamara reveals the uncertainty he felt at the time and becomes visibly emotional as he talks about the assassination of John F. Kennedy and his ultimate resignation from Secretary of Defense.
