Welcome to another edition of NEW RELEASE TUESDAY on a Wednesday! While this week will find me mostly engaged with the PS3 game HEAVY RAIN, its definitely not a slim week in the home video department. Don’t get it twisted — Its definitely another week filled with worthy additions to any Hi-Def enthusiast’s Blu-ray collection. There’s only one classic (and I use that term rather loosely) getting the shiny blu disc upgrade, and I think that has more to do with a certain remake showing up in theaters this week than the worthiness of said classic. Attention cinephiles — fans of unconventional comedies should look no further than this week’s Pick for their dose of anti-Hollywood fare. Welcome to NEW RELEASE TUESDAY on a Wednesday! Quit your whining and read on! This week is the first where I’ve actually not seen any of the new releases (or at least until last night…), so my pick of the week is simply a gut reaction. I’m pretty sure an animated flick about one of the most popular video game franchises in history is a safe bet. There’s the usual collection of new stuff on the shiny blu disc and an assortment of classics being re-released in Hi-Def (even a rare Blu-ray double-dip!), and three (count’em — THREE) Criterion Blu-ray offerings! Ok, that isn’t so bad. One day late for the latest edition of New Release Tuesday. Getting these out on time is getting tougher and tougher every week! This time out, we have ourselves what I would call a sleeper week. Not much here for Joe Six-Pack, at least not anything of worth. However, there are two flicks that will get Art House fans and other like-minded cinephiles quite excited. As usual, there’s plenty of “classics” getting the shiny blue disc treatment, one new disc that will get Horror fans into their local Blockbusters (or Mom & Pop Shops), and a couple of rather disappointing mainstream “hits” that will keep the masses appeased. Oops. Looks like it finally happened. A late edition of New Release Tuesday. Well there’s no point in dishing out excuses, so we might as well just get right into it. This week has a lot to offer to Hi-Def enthusiasts, including a late Summer hit from last year that managed to offer a fresh and funny jaunt through a Zombie-infested post apocalypse, another animated Marvel adventure, a double dose of Muay Thai action, and at least two bonafide cinema classics. Welcome to the return of New Release Tuesday, at least for this week.
